A Word from Pstr. Charlie:
In January 2018, the Converge-FilMET (Filipino Ministry Expansion Team) composed of four Filipino pastors of different Fil-Am Churches of Converge in the US, and 2 District Executive Ministers of Converge (ConvergeSouthEast and ConvergeRockyMountain), went to the Philippines for a Mission/Vision/Exploratory trip. The focus of the trip is the Mindanao area which is, for the most part, a Muslims area, and where thousands of people desperately need the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Through the help of a “person of peace,” we were able to visit remote tribal mountain villages and saw with our very own eyes the need.
We were able to meet with different tribal pastors who very much appreciated our presence. In fact, one of them (who is one of the tribal leaders as well) had said that we were the first visitors they had seen in twenty-five years. These tribal pastors are faithfully and courageously doing whatever they can to build their congregation regardless of their limited resources and hostile environment. But despite their challenges, not one of them asked the team for money; instead, what they asked for is training. One tribal pastor said, “I preach every Sunday, but I am not sure if I am preaching with accuracy.” They want to know how to go deep with God, preach with integrity, and lead with boldness. “Please teach and train us,” is a request that we have heard over and over again. How can we ignore and say no to that request?
Last September 10-18, 2018, the Converge-FilMET, together with 7 leaders from Converge-Rocky Mountain, returned to the Philippines (Mindanao) and conducted training on Church leadership, Evangelism and Church planting that the tribal pastors desperately needed. Through the recruiting efforts of the “person of peace” and the initial group of tribal pastors, we were able to train 40 church leaders and 350 students. With this training, our goal is to start at least 60 Churches throughout the remote villages in the mountains of Mindanao, and to strengthen the existing ones (By the grace of God).
With this, we ask you to pray for this project. We also ask you to partner with us by becoming a financial investor in the Engage Mindanao project. The funds will be used to cover the costs of translating and printing materials, training, travel and seed money for several new congregations.
Your partnership will result in a wave of new churches and trained leaders reaching Mindanao for the glory of God!
We are better together!
